A Hunger for Healing
Published in Paperback by Word Publishing (September, 1992)
Average review score:

A Hunger for HealingThis is a powerful book on healing. I came across this book about 5 years ago when my Christian Counselor told me to read it. I have read it numerous times and have bought many of them to share with others. This book embraces the healing process. No matter what your struggle may be, you can gain victory over it through this book's process. It is an excellent book that can be used individually or with a group in a twelve step program.
Tremendous companion bookThis workbook coupled with the hunger for healing book really allows the believer to sort through some very deep personnal dilemmas. The bible is the ultimate "tool box" for life but this is an owners guide to all of those tools. It is a real help!

If I Had Wheels or Love: Collected Poems of Vassar Miller
Published in Paperback by Texas A&M University Press (November, 1990)
Average review score:

First ClassAfter Richard Wilbur, Vassar Miller is probably the best poet of the last half of the 20th century. Beauty, depth, wit, elegance, honesty . . . She has it all. It is a sad commentary on the times that she isn't better known. One of the great Christian poets of all times.
Great collection from an underrated master.Vassar Miller's work will grow on you. Her poems are beautiful and deep. Sometimes difficult but always melodic, her words draw you back again and again. Experience reinforces the reader to believe that there is a depth in her work that deserves to be fully understood. You will want to read these poems over and over. This is an excellent collection from a masterful poet.

In Camp and Battle With the Washington Artillery of New Orleans
Published in Paperback by Louisiana State University Press (May, 1999)
Average review score:

In Camp And Battle With The Washington ArtilleryI was given the original hard back by my father Richard W. Walton Sr. (Great Grandson of Col. J.B. Walton, Commander in Chief of the Washington Artillery). Once I started reading the book, I could not put it down, finished it in the same afternoon. I would have enjoyed reading it over and over through the years, but could not due to the age and condition of the original (copyright, 1885) I have read everything that I could get my hands on involving the American Civil War. After reading this book, I feel that I owe thanks to William Miller Owen for taking me back in time. I felt the experience as if I were there. As I came to know the men of the Battalion from day one upon their depature from New Orleans enroute to Richmond VA., I felt remorse in reading of the death of so many of them.
Terrific first person account of Civil War; Confederate viewVery well written account of the Washington Artllery's engagements during the Civil War. Describes all major actions from the First Battle of Bull Run to the final surrender at Appomatox. You feel so close to the lives of the troops; makes you marvel at all the struggles and hardships that were endured. A must read for all Civil War buffs. First published in 1885 by Ticknor and Company of Boston. Reissued in a limited edition that is an exact reproduction of the original, with a few additions (an Introduction by Kenneth Urquhart, three additional illustrations, and the list of present-day officers) by The Pelican Publishing Company of New Orleans, June 1964.

In the Company of Educated Women: A History of Women and Higher Education in America
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (April, 1985)
Average review score:

ExcellentI used the book as an optional text in a course on the history of higher education. It adds a dimension to the topic that is missed by most text books-yes there were women involved in the history of higher education!!! While most texts mention women, they tend to highlight the unique rather than the norm. This book does an excellent job of explaining how the average American woman faired in higher education beginning in the early 19th century.
A Book that every woman should readThis book documents the history of women in education. It is a wonderful resource for those of us who did not run across the obstacles that our mothers and our grandmothers did when they pursued education. I feel that this should be a required text for all women in higher education instituitons.

Independent Women: Creating Our Lives, Living Our Visions
Published in Paperback by Wildcat Canyon Press (June, 2003)
Average review score:

Wonderful exploration of feminism, spirit and femininityMs. Miller weaves with touching clarity the stories and words of women who follow all paths of life with strength of spirit and self. It is an eloquent exploration of the modern definition(s) of feminism, and how women can be both feminists and feminine. Above all, these are stories: histories, wisdoms and fallacies which display the many wonderful facets of independent women.
A Must For the Modern FeministFor any woman trying to reconcile the conflicting differences between ambition, family, self-reliance and love, this book is a MUST. Filled with interviews of real women who tackle real challenges, this book is easy to read in digestible chapters. It will force you to change your perceptions and transform your life! Debra Sands Miller is a wonderfully insightful writer with a big heart!

Instead of Therapy
Published in Paperback by Hay House (August, 1991)
Average review score:

A second opinion on the Therapy processI highly recommend this book for anyone who has not been helped (or is considering entering therapy) in a meaningful way via traditional psycological therapy methods. The book should be considered mandatory reading for any professional in the fields of psychology and psychiatry who are determined to make the most positive impact possible for those people seeking their assistance. Instead of Therapy is a revolutionary book that will give the reader solid information on how to make real changes in their lives and avoid wasting time, money and energy in non-productive counseling relationships. I believe the book also gives the reader a glimpse into the future of the psychological therapy process.
Instead of Therapy by Tom RuskFor eight years, I had a mediation practice, and I am now a grade four teacher in an international school in Bangkok, Thailand. My guiding principal is to help my clients and my students become independent of me, and help themselves change. My language for this comes from Tom Rusk's "Instead of Therapy." Early in his book, Tom Rusk talks about how he freed himself and his clients from a dependent relationship, and he explains the process with clarity, compassion and humor. He reveals his personal and professional experiences in a refreshing way. Rusk comes across as a solid practioner with no nonsense and at once, with such understanding and caring. I travel with this book and I recommend this book.

Internal Flow Systems: Design and Performance Prediction
Published in Hardcover by British Hydromechanics Assn (March, 1990)
Average review score:

Excellent Reference for Headloss in Fluid FlowI used to design open channel (and pipework based) hydraulic systems for a living in the UK. This is by far the most comprehensible (and comprehensive) collection of loss data for different types of fittings I ever saw. I used them regularly. The author is/was affiliated with the British Hydraulics Research Center at Wallingford (UK) - home of the famous Wallingford charts. They are an excellent buy if you can find them.
Outstanding desk reference for any practicing engineer. This book is by far the most comprehensive text describing hydraulic losses in flow sytems that I have come across. It includes many different configurations, such as bends, diffusers, dividing flow, and combining flow. All information is presented in an easy to follow graphical format. Consideration for different flow conditions is made, such as if fully developed flow does not occur on the upstream or downstream ends of the elements being considered. I definitely recommend this text to anyone needing to calculate hydraulic losses.

Intimate Relationships
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (21 June, 2001)
Average review score:

Tired of all those confusing opinions about your love life?Sharon S. Brehm is a respected social psychologist who has composed a witty, fun, and insightful tome regarding the many fascinating contributions her field has made to the study of love relationships. Popular press books may or may not offer valid advice--they aren't relying on scientific research, but rather on opinions (which often conflict with the opinions found in still other books). Brehm offers her readers information that is reliable and valid, and perhaps most importantly, useful. Better still, her book is equally applicable for men and women. As a psychology professor and a consultant for individuals seeking their life mate, I read and use many books--texts and popular press--on this issue. Brehm's book is among my most trusted resources, and it gives readers the best of all worlds: excellent and engaging writing that is easily understood, information that is eminently useful, and solid research evidence rather than opinion alone. Should you live together? Does marriage really make people happier than if they had remained single? What attracts romantic partners? If you want "just the facts," this is the place to go for them. (If you want opinion-type popular-press books that support "the facts" and thus really do give good advice, I highly recommend "If I'm So Wonderful, Why Am I Still Single?" by Susan Page, as well as "How to Find the Love of Your Life," by Ben Dominitz, "The Rules," by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider [note: "The Rules" are for women only], and "Mars and Venus on a Date," by John Gray.)
Understand your own intimate relationships better!Confused about your conflicts with your significant other? Do you want to find out why people are attracted to some people but not others? Reading this book for my sociology class in college allowed me to better comprehend my own relationships. The book collects together social psychological research on intimate relationships, discussing such topics as attraction, sexuality, power, conflict, loneliness, and relationship development. Unlike other non-scholarly books written about relationships, this text is based on studies published by psychologists. Their conclusions can help you better understand your own relationships, but of course each individual person may differ from what sociologists generally conclude about human beings. Even though this book was written for psychology courses, the text is not too difficult to understand. This book is extremely interesting, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has been, wants to be, or is currently in a relationship - which is, basically, everyone

Introductory Algebra
Published in Paperback by Pearson Addison Wesley (July, 1999)
Average review score:

A great book!I love the way this book has you work out problems in the margins as you go through the reading. This makes sure that you understand the work that you've read about, before you go on to the next piece. I also like the fact that every other odd problem is solved step-by-step in the back of the book.
This book has everything a Algebra 1 Student needsGood Exercises and Examples, follows my childs High School Algebra every step of the way. The only problem is the web site is not working yet, but the book is worth more than it is sold for.
